2nd Oct 2004: David
Waters to enter New York Marathon |
|
David Waters has
volunteered with minimal arm twisting from others, to run the New York
Marathon and is attempting to raise over £11,000, which is shared 60%
for the Weston Spirit Foundation and 40% for the local hospice, The
Martlets.
The Weston Spirit was
established by Simon Weston, the Falklands war hero famed for his
atrocious injuries suffered when on the "Sir Galahad", and others with
the specific aim of helping young distressed people in the UK turn
their lives around.
The Martlets Hospice
in Hove, East Sussex provides excellent palliative care services and
counselling for the bereaved families.
If you would like to
sponsor David or make a donation of any description, we would be
delighted. Please make your cheque payable to the Weston Spirit. If
you would like a sponsor form to collect sponsorship from friends,
family or colleagues, please us on our new lo-call number 08450

1st Oct 2004: Asbestos related liability claims |
|
There has recently been an increased number of claims for asbestos,
relating principally to claims being brought by the "worried well",
i.e. those who may have been exposed to asbestos, but are not
currently suffering from any effects of asbestosis or similar.
The Control of Asbestos
at Work Regulations 2002 now requires employers to prevent exposure of
employees to asbestos. If it is not reasonably practical, the law
states that their exposure should be controlled to the lowest possible
level.
Any care homes with
any form of asbestos within their structure - this appears to be mare
usual in the roofs of outbuildings - should arrange for a professional
asbestos removal contractor to remove the asbestos entirely. If you
wish to have a survey of your property to detect any areas of
asbestos, please contact CHIS on 08450 582040.

Jun 2004: Changes under the FSA from January 2005 |
|
General insurance comes
under the auspices of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) from 14th
January 2005. While this means little change for you regarding the
service we provide, we believe that this is a very good move which
will benefit most insurance customers and hopefully will make the
insurance industry more professional.
CHIS has recently applied for accreditation to the FSA and we will
continue in our efforts to ensure that our clients receive the best
quality, professional insurance service. We welcome any feedback or
suggestions on how we could improve our service and if you have any
issues regarding this, please write to or phone David Waters, Managing
Director at the usual address, who is passionate about the quality of
our service for each and every client.

Jan 2004: DAS cover for legal expenses |
|
DAS provide
cover for legal expenses relating to your care home up to an indemnity
limit of £100,000 in any year of insurance. Please be aware that the
policy makes it a condition of the cover that DAS must be consulted
from the outset of a potential legal action and no later.
In recent months we have had two
incidents where clients have dismissed an employee, who has
subsequently taken them to industrial tribunal. In both cases, DAS
were only consulted when the papers arrived for the tribunal, so no
indemnity was provided by DAS.
When you are in the unfortunate
position of having to take disciplinary action with an employee or
involved in any other form of legal action, please be aware that if
you may require any form of indemnity from insurers, you must consult
with them before taking any such action.
As an Ansvar client you can
contact DAS by calling 0117 934 0437 quoting reference number
TS5/3603486. DAS will ask for your policy number. Alternatively if you
are an AXA client you can contact DAS by calling 0117 934 2111,
quoting reference TS5/3607581 and agent no: 157192. DAS will ask for
your policy number and will then be able to help you following a call
back to us for confirmation.
